The Sermons of Mr. Yorick Volume 1
London, R. and J. Dodsley, 1760
The third edition. Small 8vo. (15x9.5cm), xx + 203 pages (bound without a half-title page). Portrait of Stern facing the title page. Generally a clean, crisp copy, with light even browning to some pages and a very few light brown spots or other marks. A brown mark on the endpapers from the pasted down leather, also visible on the blank leaves at the ends of the volume, and the last two pages of text at the end of the volume. An early owner’s name written on the endpaper and repeated on the blank leaf after it. The title page somewhat browned and a little creased, with some offset from the portrait.
Bound in full leather (polished calf) of about the same date as the book. The binding worn but solid, some rubbing and pitting to the surface and some leather lost at the top of the spine. The red label on the spine defective. The leather cracked along the front hinge, but the cover firmly attached.
